The Meaning Behind Our Hummingbird Logo

The hummingbird has always held deep meaning for me. Born in Trinidad and Tobago—known by its native name Kairi or Iere, the “land of the hummingbird”—I’ve always been fascinated by its grace, energy, and resilience. With over 340 species worldwide, each hummingbird is unique in its rhythm, color, and movement.

For me, the hummingbird represents my son’s spirit—dynamic, adaptable, and full of quiet strength. Living with autism and, more recently, epilepsy, he continues to move through life with kindness and curiosity. His resilience inspired me to make the hummingbird the symbol of our work and our community.
On a larger scale, the hummingbird represents not only my son but all others on the spectrum like him—individuals whose brilliance, creativity, and ways of seeing the world challenge us to look beyond the ordinary. Each person, like each hummingbird, moves at their own rhythm and contributes something vibrant and vital to the world around them.
Each person, like each hummingbird, moves at their own rhythm and contributes something vibrant and vital to the world around them.
Our foundation logo, brought to life by volunteer graphic artist Stephen Visconti reflects that inspiration. The bright colors—blue, orange, coral, and green—represent energy, creativity, and hope.

For the bakery, we recently introduced earth tones to ground the identity in nourishment, warmth, and connection to the hands-on, sensory nature of baking.

And as Kindred continues to grow, each part of our organization expresses its own color palette, from brighter tones to earthier shades that connect to nourishment, sensory learning, and hands-on baking. Different colors, one shared heartbeat, and a commitment to making inclusivity the norm, not the exception.
