Culinary Arts Summer Bootcamp: It's a wrap!

This summer, Kindred wrapped up our Culinary Arts Boot Camp. It was our first time bringing both baking and cooking into the classroom. Mondays were for baking, Tuesdays for cooking, and by the end, the group was moving confidently between the two.

Six weeks in, we watched kids go from cracking their first egg to portioning dough like old pros. Some days were about precision: leveling flour, timing a proof. Other days were about flavor and texture, and a little bit of mess. Either way, the room stayed productive in the best way: kids narrating what they were doing, tasting as they went, cheering each other on.

Alongside the cooking, every class built in food safety: the principles of handwashing, safe temperatures, and handling food the way a real kitchen requires. These skills count toward a food handler's license, a credential that matters far beyond the classroom.

By week six, we were watching kids trust themselves in the kitchen, gaining skills and independence they can bring back home, or out into the professional world.
